About the Project
As part of the Global Environment Facility’s planetGOLD programme, EcoAgriculture Partners introduced country teams to Integrated Landscape Management as a way to understand and respond to the complex challenges associated with artisanal and small-scale gold mining.
Through a capacity-strengthening programme reaching 23 countries, EcoAg helped participants move beyond isolated, single-sector responses and consider the wider relationships between mining, agriculture, conservation, livelihoods, governance, and other land uses.
The training equipped country teams with practical concepts and tools for stakeholder engagement, inclusive governance, landscape planning, and landscape finance, helping them explore how more coordinated and systemic approaches could be applied in their own territories.
OUTPUTS: Training for country teams across 23 planetGOLD countries, covering Integrated Landscape Management, stakeholder engagement, inclusive governance, landscape planning, and landscape finance; practical tools to support ILM processes in gold-mining landscapes and landscapes where artisanal and small-scale gold mining is present
Impact
EcoAg’s contribution to the planetGOLD programme helped draw greater attention to the need for systemic approaches to the complex challenges associated with artisanal and small-scale gold mining.
By introducing Integrated Landscape Management and practical tools for cross-sector collaboration, the training helped country teams consider mining-related challenges within their wider environmental, social, economic, and governance contexts. It also demonstrated the value of moving beyond isolated interventions toward approaches that consider the landscape as a whole.
