Corridor is suffering

In 2010, the Government of Tanzania launched the Southern Agricultural Growth Corridor of Tanzania (SAGCOT) initiative as a public-private partnership dedicated to ensuring food security, reducing poverty and spurring economic development in Tanzania’s 300,000 square kilometer Southern Corridor. While the region has considerable agricultural potential, it currently suffers from low productivity, low levels of investment, and high rates of poverty.

Greenprint for a better future

A different future for the Southern Corridor is possible, one that develops southern Tanzania into a major regional food producer and engine of national economic development, dramatically reduces poverty among its nine million residents, protects the rich biodiversity that underlies a dynamic tourism sector and sustains the region’s ecosystems as the productive base of future wellbeing. This document describes that future—and a framework for developing strategies to achieve it.
