At the Rainforest Alliance, we are building an alliance to create a better future for people and nature by making responsible business the new normal. To advance our mission, we focus on amplifying our impact on the ground through systemic transformation: change across the entire supply chain, change in the relationship between people and nature, and change within our own organization. We achieve this transformation by working in collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders to create a stronger Alliance. Together, we amplify the voices of farmers and forest communities, improve livelihoods, protect biodiversity, and help people adapt to climate change in bold and effective ways. Together, we can achieve our vision of a world where people and nature thrive in harmony.
A centerpiece of Rainforest Alliance’s work in building Alliances is the 1000 Landscapes for 1 Billion People (1000L) initiative – a coalition of seven organizations that aims to accelerate change and deliver solutions at scale in support of Landscape Partnerships – multi-stakeholder initiatives of local actors coming together around a joint vision of sustainable development in a landscape. 1000L is convened by EcoAgriculture Partners, and co-led by Rainforest Alliance, Commonland, Conservation International, the United Nations Development Programme, Landscape Finance Lab, and information technology leader Tech Matters. A dozen Landscape Partnerships are currently contributing as co-design partners. The initiative is organized around four Design Teams that are designing solutions to accelerate the uptake of collaborative, multi-stakeholder processes in landscapes: the Terraso Digital Platform, Capacity Development for Integrated Landscape Management, Landscape Finance Solutions, and the Global Action Network. The initiative is currently in the Design, Testing and Demonstration phase (2021-2023) before entering into the Global Scaling Phase (2024-2030).
The Lead, Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) will lead the design and delivery of M&E activities for 1000L globally. As a key member of the Hub (the coalition’s collaborative management body), s/he will guide the Hub and the initiative’s four Design Teams in tracking progress, measuring outcomes, developing monitoring protocols and capturing learnings. The Lead, MEL will interact with the Design Teams and Landscape Partnerships to understand the ILM journey and learn about key assumptions made with regards to 1000L services provided. The role, funded by IKEA Foundation, a key financial partner to the initiative, will be based in Nairobi, Kenya, in proximity to key partner-supported landscapes. The 1000 Landscapes initiative is looking for a change-oriented and impact driven professional who operates well in a highly collaborative environment and is interested in taking a systemic view to change.
